What this tool does

Use this tool to convert Morse code to text: paste dots and dashes and it decodes them back into readable letters, digits and punctuation. It helps when you are learning the code, solving puzzles, or reading a message sent in the standard written format. Run it and the decoded message appears in plain text. No account or download is needed.

The format the decoder expects

Written Morse needs spacing to be readable by a decoder: one space between the code for each letter, and a slash between words. Pasted in that layout, each group maps to exactly one character. The companion Text to Morse Code tool on this site produces precisely this format, so messages round-trip cleanly between the two.

Good to know

Decoding expects spaces between letters and a / between words. Other separators, or code pasted with no spacing at all, may decode incorrectly or merge letters together. If the output looks garbled, check the spacing of the original code first; that is the most common cause of a bad decode.

Frequently asked questions

How do I decode Morse code into text?

Paste the Morse code with spaces between letters and slashes between words, then click Run. The decoded message appears as readable text on the page.

Why did my code decode incorrectly?

The usual cause is spacing. Without spaces between letter groups, or with a separator other than a slash between words, groups merge and decode to the wrong characters.

Does it play or record audio?

No. It works on written Morse code that you paste as text. It does not listen to beeps or signals, and it cannot decode sound.
