What this days between dates calculator does

This days between dates calculator measures the gap between any two dates and reports it in days, weeks, months and years. Pick a start date and an end date and it counts the exact number of days between them. It is handy for project timelines, countdowns to events, notice periods and contract dates — any job where how long between these two dates needs a precise answer.

How the difference is reported

The total days figure is an exact count of the days from the start date to the end date. Weeks are that count grouped into sevens, while months and years follow the calendar, so a one-month gap can be 28 to 31 days depending on which months it crosses. When precision matters, quote the total days figure.

Good to know

Because months are calendar months, the months-and-years breakdown is a calendar reading rather than a fixed-length conversion — February behaves differently from July. If another tool disagrees slightly on the months figure, check whether it counts calendar months or average months; the total day count should match exactly either way.

Frequently asked questions

Does the count include both the start and end dates?

It reports the elapsed difference — the days counted forward from the start date to reach the end date. If your purpose needs both endpoints counted, as some deadlines do, add one day.

Can I count days between dates in the past or future?

Yes. The dates can be both past, both future, or one of each. The calculator simply measures the distance between them and presents it in days, weeks, months and years.

Why does the same gap show different months and days?

Months have unequal lengths, so a sixty-day gap reads as about two months in one part of the year and slightly under in another. The day count is the anchor; other units are readings of it.
