SVG Optimizer

Shrink SVG code by removing comments, extra whitespace and editor metadata.

Try an example

Load a ready-made sample into this tool and run it. Every result you see is calculated live by the tool itself — nothing here is a pre-written answer.

How to Use

  1. Paste SVG code or choose an SVG file.
  2. Click Run.
  3. Copy the smaller SVG code.

Shrink SVG code by removing the clutter

This SVG optimizer reduces the size of SVG code by stripping out comments, extra whitespace and editor metadata that drawing programs leave behind. Paste SVG code or choose an SVG file, run the tool, and copy the smaller code. The artwork itself is untouched; only the parts of the file that no viewer ever renders are taken away. The cleaned code is ready to paste or save.

For icons and illustrations going to the web

SVG files exported from illustration software often carry layer names, comments and formatting that add weight to every page that loads them. Cleaning that code is a safe early optimization for icon sets, logos and inline illustrations, especially files that will be embedded directly in HTML, where every extra byte ships with the page.

Good to know

This is a simple optimizer: it tidies code but does not rewrite paths, merge shapes or remove elements, so savings vary from file to file. An SVG that was already hand-cleaned may shrink very little, while a raw editor export with heavy metadata usually shows the biggest reduction.

Frequently asked questions

Will optimizing change how my SVG looks?

No. The tool removes comments, whitespace and metadata, none of which affect rendering. Shapes, colors, paths and viewBox values stay as they are, though previewing the result before publishing is sensible, as with any processed file.

Why did my SVG barely get smaller?

Probably because it was already clean. With few comments, little metadata and compact formatting, a tidying optimizer has little to remove. Bigger savings need path-level rewriting, which this tool deliberately avoids because it can alter artwork.

Is my SVG code sent to a server?

No. Files and pasted code are processed in your browser and never sent to the site's server. You can optimize unpublished or client artwork without the code leaving your device.
