What this text file analyzer does
This text file analyzer reads an uploaded plain-text file and reports its basic counts: total lines, words, characters and blank lines. It is built for whole files rather than pasted snippets — log files, exported notes, subtitle files, data dumps and drafts you already have saved. Choose the file, run the count, and read the totals without opening a heavy editor.
When to use it
Reach for it when a file is too large to paste comfortably, or when you need blank lines counted separately — a common check before cleaning data or importing text elsewhere. Files up to 5 MB are accepted. Because the counts come from the file itself, the figures cover everything in it, including lines you might not notice by eye.
Good to know
Only plain-text files are analysed. Binary files — images, programs, compressed archives and most office documents — are rejected with an error rather than guessed at. Your file is processed in your browser and is never sent to this site's server, so nothing you analyse is uploaded or stored.
Frequently asked questions
Which files can I analyse?
Any plain-text file, such as .txt, .log, .csv, .md or subtitle files, up to 5 MB. If the file is binary, the analyser rejects it with an error message instead of producing misleading counts from unreadable content.
What counts as a blank line?
A line with nothing on it between two line breaks. Blank lines are counted separately from the total line count, which makes them easy to spot when a file has spacing problems or empty sections that need cleaning.
How is this different from counting pasted text?
Pasting works for short text, but a saved file keeps its exact line breaks and content. Analysing the file itself avoids clipboard limits and missed characters, and gives totals for the complete file, not just the part you selected.
