What this Base64 encoder does

This Base64 encoder converts text into a Base64 string — a representation built only from letters, digits and a few safe symbols. Systems that mangle special characters, such as some email, URL and data formats, can carry Base64 without damage. Type or paste your text, and the encoder handles UTF-8 properly, so non-English characters survive the round trip. The finished string can be pasted wherever that format is expected.

When to use it

Use it when a tool, API or file format asks for Base64 input: embedding small data in a data URI, preparing values for a header, or matching the format an example in documentation shows. Encoding also grows the data by roughly a third, which is worth remembering when a field has a size limit.

Good to know

Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. Anyone who receives the string can decode it in seconds, so never use it to hide passwords, keys or private information. If something must stay secret, it needs real encryption, which is a different tool for a different job.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the encoded text longer than my input?

Base64 stores every three bytes of input as four characters of output, so the result is about one third longer. That growth is normal and expected; it is the cost of using an alphabet that travels safely almost everywhere.

Does it handle text in other languages?

Yes. The encoder first writes your text as UTF-8 bytes, then encodes those bytes, so characters from languages such as Arabic, Chinese or French are encoded correctly and can be decoded back to the exact same text.

Can I encode a password to keep it safe?

No. Encoding is not protection. A Base64 password can be decoded by anyone who sees it, with no key and no effort. Store passwords with a proper password manager or hashing system instead of any encoder.

Limitations

Base64 is an encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it, so never use it to hide secrets.
