What this CSV to JSON converter does

This CSV to JSON converter turns comma-separated data into a JSON array of objects. The first row of your data is treated as field names, and each row after it becomes one object using those names as keys. Paste spreadsheet-style data copied from a file or a table, and you get structured JSON ready for code, APIs or testing. You can then copy the result as plain text.

When to use it

Use it when a system expects JSON but your data lives in a spreadsheet, or when you need quick fixture data for development. Values are carried across as they appear in the CSV, so check the result if your program needs numbers without quotes — a column of figures may arrive as text that your code should convert.

Good to know

This is a simple CSV parser. Quoted fields containing commas are handled correctly, but quoted fields spanning several lines are not supported. If your export uses multiline fields, split or clean those records first, because they will not convert into the objects you expect.

Frequently asked questions

What does the first row need to contain?

Field names, one per column, such as name, city and age. Each following row becomes a JSON object with those names as keys. If your data has no header row, add one first, or the first record will be consumed as names.

Are numbers converted to real JSON numbers?

CSV carries no type information — every value starts as text. Review the output before relying on it: if your application needs numeric fields, convert those values in your code after conversion, and check dates and leading zeros especially carefully.

Why did a quoted field break the result?

Quoted fields with commas inside them are supported, but a quoted field that itself contains line breaks is not. That multiline case needs a full CSV library; here, replace the internal line break first and the row will convert normally.

Limitations

This is a simple CSV parser: quoted fields with commas are handled, but multiline quoted fields are not.
