Build a palette from one base color

This color palette generator starts from a single base color and builds a small, structured palette around it: lighter tints, darker shades, the complementary color opposite it on the color wheel, and two analogous colors beside it. Pick or enter your base color, run the palette, and copy any resulting color value to use in your design, stylesheet or document.

A starting point, not a finished scheme

The palette suits early-stage work: drafting a web page theme, checking whether a brand color has usable lighter and darker variants, or finding an accent that pairs predictably with your main color. Because every color is derived by formula, the set is consistent and repeatable, which helps when you need tints and shades that clearly belong to the same family.

Good to know

Palettes here are computed from HSL math, not hand-picked by a designer. Formula-based harmony is a reliable starting point, but it cannot judge your context, so check the colors against your actual brand, content and accessibility needs before committing to them in a finished design.

Frequently asked questions

Can it extract a palette from a photo?

No. The generator works from one base color you pick or type; it does not read images. To start from a picture, note a color in it with a color picker, then enter that color here.

What is the difference between a tint and a shade?

A tint mixes the base color toward white, making it lighter; a shade mixes toward black, making it darker. Both keep the same hue, suiting hover states, backgrounds and borders in one design.

How many colors does one palette include?

Each run produces several tints, several shades, one complementary color and two analogous colors, all derived from your single base color. Copy whichever values you need; nothing is saved.
